Alyona Ivanova wins MESA+ Best Poster Award 2009

An important part of the annual MESA+ conference, in which both
MESA+ scientists and external visitors exchange ideas in a relaxed
atmosphere, is the Best Poster contest. This year's first prize for
the Best Poster was won by Alyona Ivanova, together with her
co-authors Remco Stoffer, Lasse Kauppinen and Manfred Hammer.
Ivanova works at the Applied Analysis and Mathematical Physics
research group of the faculty of EEMCS.
The winning poster displays dimensionality reduction in the
simulation of the behaviour of light in microstructures. This
technique has the potential to significantly reduce the effort
needed to design optical sensors and fiber-optic communication
chips. Ivanova has received a cheque for € 1000 as a reward.
